Hole 1
A hard start. The second shot is invariably blind. If not sure, take one club less to leave a fairly straightforward chip on to the green.
Hole 2
You will need your biggest club here. A long drive up the left-hand side will give you a chance to get home in two shots, but there is a ditch short of the green to catch the Mis hit second shot or a bunker on the right if you don’t quite make the green.
Hole 3
Only 125 yards, but there is a pond just in front of the green. Take enough club or you are going to get wet.
Hole 4
A good drive needed to clear the trees lining the right hand side of the fairway to get to the right hand dogleg. This will give a relatively easy second shot, but, what ever club you think you need, take one more.
Hole 5
A great driving hole. Keep the ball up the right hand side and it should run down to the middle of the fairway. If you are not going for the green in two, lay up short of the fairway bunkers leaving a simple pitch into the green.
Hole 6
Stroke index 1. The fairway slopes left to right, so keep it left, but beware the out of bounds. Out of bounds through the back of the green as well, so a bogey here will feel like a par.
Hole 7
Short par 3. What you see is what you get, but make sure you end up on the same tier as the pin.
Hole 8
You can reach the green with your drive, but will pay a heavy penalty for failure. A picturesque pond and fairway brook short of the green will catch the unwary.
Hole 9
Long swinging dogleg slightly downhill. Your long second shot will need to carry the greenside bunker.
Hole 10
Shortest par 4 on the course. Lay up to the ditch and this will leave you with a short mid iron to the green.
Hole 11
Keep your drive left of the marker post to hit the plateau. This will leave a short mid-iron to an inviting green.
Hole 12
Great par 3. Only one place to be and that’s in the middle. Left or right and you’re in sand.
Hole 13
Take a mid to long iron off the tee to leave about 130 – 150 yards. Take more than this at your peril. You then need to keep the ball high right, but there is a bunker lurking by the green to catch anything too wide. Too wide right of the green and you’re out of bounds.
Hole 14
As big John said "Grip it and Rip it". Short par 5 so the only hole where a big loose left or right shot is OK.
Hole 15
Keep the drive up the left-hand side, but not too far or you’ll be in the trees. Needs a good drive though to get home in two shots.
Hole 16
Decision time – Do you take on the trees over the corner or play the dogleg. It’s the difference of 180 or 120 yards, so it’s up to you.
Hole 17
Long par 3. Bunkers left and right so hit it straight.
Hole 18
Good finishing hole. The best line is the right hand but out of bounds awaits a slice. A tricky second shot to a small green.
Best tip is – whatever the yardage, when playing a hole up hill, take at least one more club and trust your choice. If all else fails – stand back and enjoy the fantastic views.
